My patience ran thin when I found a child finger-painting the wall with poop. I cried over a sassy-mouthed teenager and almost accepted his offer to go live with his dad. (I’m glad I didn’t.) I questioned my ability to parent when the principal called yet another conference about my middle-schooler. Many nights, after they were asleep, I sat on the edges of their beds and cried and prayed, and then walked away with the courage to go another day. Always, I sought answers.
I like to visit the parenting section of bookstores. There are so many choices. How does one know which book to buy? Should we read them all or just buy the one recommended by a friend?
What I have concluded after much prayer, study and listening to kids and parents in my counseling office is that the best parenting book is the Holy Bible. There’s not always a specific answer such as, “Here is what to do if your teen daughter is cutting.” But the Word of God, taken as a whole, is the best, most comprehensive and most ageless parenting book available.
In this blog, I want to hear the needs of parents who are trying to rear their children in a culture that seems to work against them instead of for them.
Together, let’s seek answers that will make it easier to raise our children to be godly men and women leaders of tomorrow. Our Source will be God’s Word. As the professional, my contribution will be to guide the discussions, contributing from my training and experience. But, the community of parents who come to this place will bring the concerns and questions. You know your children. You know the difficulties of parenting in today’s culture. Let’s make this a community where we can find the answers.

Carole, this particular blog truly touched my heart. Although I was not a single partent, I sat on the edge of my girl’s beds many nights praying, crying, praying — Thank God that he was always there walking beside me and lifting me through every step of parenting.

Thanks for your comment, Janice.
If only I had spent more time in the Word back then, some of my hills would have been easier to climb. Being a single parent doesn’t grant exclusivity to the pain.
All parents face those tough times. I hope this blog will give parents a place to connect and seek answers from the one true Source, God’s Word.
